Current Practice

Rodney advises on stamp duties, property taxes and other state taxation issues in all Australian States and Territories.

Rodney has experience across a broad range of transactions, including:

  • mergers, acquisitions and divestments;
  • corporate reorganisations;
  • business restructuring;
  • asset acquisitions and disposals;
  • infrastructure projects;
  • structured and asset financing
  • capital raisings; and
  • debt funding and restructuring.
Rodney provides strategic stamp duty planning and structuring advice and implementation support for transactions and projects. He also undertakes regulatory approvals, due diligence reviews, and dispute resolution with the revenue authorities.

Experience

Rodney has over 20 years experience acting for a broad range of international and Australian companies as well as professional services firms and high net worth individuals. His clients have included major international and national groups in the banking, insurance, financial services, property, energy, pharmaceutics, transport and manufacturing sectors.

Some of Rodney’s recent transactions include advising:

  • energy and utilities groups on the acquisition, financing and divestment of power generation and transmission assets in Victoria,
  • Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia;
  • international and Australian corporate groups on the restructuring of entities;
  • international and Australian corporate groups on the reorganisation of businesses;
  • superannuation funds on the merger and restructure of trusts; and
  • industrial groups on asset securitisations and other financing structures.
 

Qualifications

Rodney has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. He joined Hall & Wilcox as a partner in mid 2008.

Prior to joining Hall & Wilcox, Rodney was a tax partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he established and led the Melbourne office’s stamp duty advisory practice. Rodney was previously a partner with Blake Dawson in their banking & finance and corporate and commercial groups.

Rodney is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, a fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an associate of the Law Society of New South Wales and Chartered Secretaries Australia. Rodney is also a member of the State Taxes Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria. ​
