Current Practice

Jessica has experience acting in a broad range of litigious and non litigious employment law matters including:

  • acting for and appearing on behalf of employers in various tribunals and courts including the Federal Court of Australia, the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia, the County Court of Victoria, Fair Work Australia and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal; 
  • formulating strategies with clients regarding managing employee performance, workplace change and redundancy, terminations of employment, and achieving effective long term industrial relations outcomes;
  • drafting and advising clients on employment contracts, modern award application, enterprise agreements, and workplace policies;
  • advising on all employment related aspects associated with commercial transactions and transfers of business; and
  • advising on all aspects of employment and workplace relations legislation, particularly the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), and State and Federal equal employment opportunity legislation.

Experience

Jessica has experience acting on behalf of and advising clients in a broad range of industries, from small private companies to large ASX listed enterprises, including in the banking and finance industry, and manufacturers and retailers.

Examples of Jessica’s recent experience include:

  • achieving a successful outcome for a financial institution defending a general protections claim and breach of contract claim in the Federal Magistrates Court;
  • acting for a large employer in breach of contract proceedings brought by a former senior employee in the County Court;
  • achieving a successful outcome for a listed company in defence of a claim for breaches of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth);
  • acting on behalf of a purchaser in a large commercial transaction and advising on complex employment related aspects of the transaction and preparing all employment contracts for transferring employees, including executive contracts; and
  • reviewing and updating contracts of employment and conducting modern award audits to ensure compliance with obligations under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). 

Qualifications

Jessica has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance from the University of Tasmania. 

Jessica is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute.​
