Current Practice

Iona has experience in both litigious and non litigious employment and workplace relations matters including: 

  • drafting and providing advice in relation to enterprise agreements, contracts of employment and independent contractor agreements;
  • advising employers in relation to termination of employment, including performance related termination and redundancy;
  • advising employers in relation to claims for unfair dismissal and discrimination claims arising from the termination of employment;
  • providing advice to employers regarding post-employment restraints;
  • acting for and advising employers in various courts and tribunals including the Federal Magistrates Court, the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, Fair Work Australia and the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
  • advising on the application and operation of industrial instruments; and
  • advising on changes to Federal workplace relations laws and potential impacts on client operations.

Experience

Examples of Iona’s recent experience include:

  • providing advice to a major Australian employer in relation to a prosecution by the Workplace Ombudsman;
  • appearing for employers in conciliations of unfair dismissals in Fair Work Australia;
  • drafting and advising on the implementation of enterprise agreements; and
  • advising a client in relation to a redundancy claim in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Qualifications

Iona has a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma (Arts) from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney.

Prior to joining Hall & Wilcox Iona worked at Harmers Workplace Lawyers in Sydney.

Iona is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
