Current Practice

Adrian practices in superannuation, financial services and compliance. He provides licensing, prudential and governance advice, as well as preparing and negotiating agreements, including administration and outsourcing agreements, for superannuation and financial services entities. His practice includes acting in the establishment and administration of superannuation funds, managed investment schemes and structured products, including regulatory advice and document preparation.

Experience

Adrian's clients include trustees of superannuation funds, responsible entities and trustees of managed investment schemes, life insurance companies, investment managers, financial planners, and listed and unlisted public companies.

Adrian’s recent experience includes:

  • acting for a life company in the establishment of a guaranteed retirement income product;
  • acting as legal counsel for an in-house project team in the integration of a funds management business featuring superannuation funds, IDPS and IDPS-like schemes;
  • acting for the superannuation trustee within a retail banking group in the development of a new superannuation product that would provide access to a suite of new underlying managed funds;
  • acting in the establishment of a new superannuation master trust including establishing a fund within the trust;
  • advising on the restructure of a retail superannuation fund, including the establishment of a new sub-plan within the fund;
  • acting for the trustee of a pooled superannuation trust in the transition of trusteeship for the PST, including liaising with APRA;
  • acting in the restructure of a managed fund to facilitate a $350m investment by a corporate superannuation fund;
  • acting for a life company in relation to its distribution arrangements and development of its structured products; and
  • acting in the restructure and ‘roll up’ of a number of wealth management firms into a national financial planning group. 

Qualifications

Adrian has a Bachelor of Laws and a Masters of Commercial Law from the University of Melbourne. Adrian became Special Counsel in 2009.

He is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, the Taxation Institute of Australia and the Self-Managed Super Fund Professionals' Association of Australia (SPAA).

Adrian joined Hall & Wilcox in 1998 and worked in the insurance practice before focusing on commercial and financial services.
