Hall & Wilcox In-house Counsel Workshops

We have chosen seven substantive law topics that in-house counsel have told us are either becoming new high risk areas for them (and they need to know what they're about) or issues that have for some time been every day issues of importance. The workshops are aimed at making sure in-house counsel are on top of the latest developments and gain practical tips.

Substantive law topics

  • Competition law dangers of dealing with competitors - communicating with competitors, gathering market intelligence, price fixing, bid rigging - what your staff can and cannot say or do;
  • 'Hot topics' of employment law - review of the Fair Work Act, executive terminations - golden handshake provisions and social media risks during employment and following termination;
  • Dealing with regulators - what to do when the regulators come and how to prepare your business in advance (the ACCC, Fair Work Ombudsman, WorkSafe Victoria and the ATO);
  • Directors' duties - what you need to know about recent decisions and what you need to do in response;

  • Legal dangers with media - advertising, press releases, interviews, sponsorships - how it can all go wrong, how to balance risk and the commercial objective, including a panel with special guests;  and
  • Personal Property Securities Act - what you need to know and do.
    Hall & Wilcox invites you to its annual workshops for in-house counsel to be held between 7-9 March.

Compulsory unit topics

  • Ethics and Professional Responsibility: Legal professional privilege and document retention.

  • Practice Management and Business Skills: Risk management and compliance.

  • Professional Skills: Latest developments in legal research and the electronic library.

 The workshops will be hosted and led by partner, Sally Scott and a team of presenters and external guests.
