Hall & Wilcox enhances sports and entertainment expertise with appointment of Martin Ross

Commercial law firm Hall & Wilcox has today announced the appointment of experienced and well regarded commercial lawyer Martin Ross as a partner in its corporate & commercial team.

Mr Ross joins the firm following his departure from Browne & Co, where he had practised for the previous 15 years and had been partner since 2006.

Hall & Wilcox Managing Partner Tony Macvean said the appointment would enhance the firm’s sports and entertainment expertise and assist the development of the firm’s broader commercial practice.

“Martin brings with him an outstanding reputation and tremendous expertise, particularly in the sports and entertainment industries,” Mr Macvean said.

“We believe his significant sports and entertainment industry experience, including advising on significant facilities, sponsorship and broadcast agreements and in high profile disputes, will add an exciting new dimension to our existing practice.”

Mr Ross has previously acted on behalf of a wide variety of clients, including sports organisations, content owners, large corporations and government bodies.

He is currently a director of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA), as well as a current and founding member of the Law Institute of Victoria’s sports law committee.

Mr Macvean said that the appointment would also allow the firm to provide existing corporate clients with access to Martin’s extensive expertise in areas such as sponsorship, rights management, licensing, regulatory matters and disputes.

“Martin’s appointment as our 34th partner is testament to the growth of our firm. His appointment means that we will be able to provide a greater range of advice to existing clients and continue to attract new ones,” Mr Macvean said.

Mr Ross said he was looking forward to joining the rapidly growing firm.

“I am eager to be able to provide clients with the comprehensive array of legal services that Hall & Wilcox is known for,” Mr Ross said.

“I am very familiar with the firm, and I am confident that the firm’s culture of building strong relationships between partner and client is consistent with my own values.

“I am delighted to be joining a firm held in such high regard, and look forward to furthering that reputation.”
