Our German team has extensive experience in advising German clients on all areas of doing business in Australia. The team knows the similarities, differences and challenges that German companies face when operating in the Australian market.

Our team includes two dual qualified lawyers, Mark Inston and native German Oliver Jankowsky. Both Mark and Oliver, who speak fluent German, are German qualified lawyers who now work in Australia and who have particular expertise in assisting German, Austrian and Swiss clients in doing business in Australia.

Examples of our team’s experience include:

• acting for Intershop Communications AG in entering into a major IT contract with Telstra Corporation Limited and in setting up a branch office in Australia;
• advising Siemens Limited (the Australian subsidiary of Siemens AG) on the acquisition of an Australian business and on various other matters;  
• advising Gollmann Kommissioniersysteme GmbH in setting up an Australian subsidiary and various other matters;  
• acting for a German airline in the acquisition and lease financing of 16 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft and on the refinancing of five Boeing 737-400 aircraft;
• acting for a German bank on the restructuring of leveraged lease finance transactions for 17 Airbus A320 aircraft on lease to a major European airline; and
• advising a German retail company about visa requirements for staff sent to Australia to establish the company, and ensuring ongoing compliance with immigration laws once the company was established.
