Occupational Health & Safety
Current practice
Penny’s practice covers the provision of advice on all matters related to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) law. Practising law for 16 years, she also draws on her experience in criminal law and her work with various government bodies in advising her clients. In particular, Penny has significant experience in:
- incident response and management;
- conduct of prosecutions;
- coronial inquests;
- Sentencing Act claims; and
- compliance, advice and training in OH&S legislation.
Clients and experience
Penny has extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of Occupational Health & Safety law.
In addition, Penny provides clients with ongoing advice on how to ensure the safety of their employees and mitigate risk at their workplaces.
A particular strength is in incident management, which typically sees her deployed on-site immediately, as part of Hall & Wilcox’s 24/7 on-call service offering. She will manage all aspects of incident management, including liaising with emergency services and the coroner if required.
Penny’s clients traditionally cover manufacturing, mining, energy, transport and forestry sectors. She provides advice and assists in their obligations under the occupational health and safety legislation, their health and safety policies and the potential implications of any changes to the legislative framework.
Penny also provides training and compliance advice in the various aspects of occupational health and safety law. She is equally comfortable in presenting to large corporations on the changes in the occupational health and safety area, as she is in managing an incident “in the field.”
Qualifications and personal affiliations
Penny has a combined Bachelor of Arts and Law degree from the University of Tasmania. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
